We have been learning about Judaism in Cherry Class. We made some scrolls, like the Torah, with our names written in Hebrew. Some people even added a short message.
Month: March 2024
Congratulations!
This young lady received the Holden Heart award for kindness this week. She is the first person ever to get the award. Members of the school community voted for her (including pupils). Congratulations.
Science Week #2
We experimented with torches and light to track the progress of the sun throughout a day. We noticed the length of the shadows cast by the animals. We also revised key words like opaque, translucent and transparent. In our experiment, we remembered how many hours there were in a day and how our plant travels around the sun, giving the appearance of sun rise and sun set. We had a great week using our science knowledge.
Freeze Frame
In English, we looked at myths about Maui’s Many Adventures. We learned a myth about how the islands of New Zealand were created and created freeze frames to tell the story.
Science Week in Year 3
For science week, we looked at the scientific skill of making observations over time. We worked in small groups. Each group was given a jar of white liquid and we had to take it in turns to rigorously shake the jar. Every 2 minutes, we stopped and wrote down what we could see inside the jar. Here are some of our observations:
Time Elapsed in minutes | Observations |
0 (start) | Thick, white liquid |
2 | Bigger, thicker liquid, covers the sides of the jar, “it looks like mayonnaise.” |
4 | Creamy, sticky, not liquid any more, “like bubbly, thick milkshake.” |
6 | Some watery, white substance with a yellow tinge, gloopy like sour cream. |
8 | Very lumpy, “looks like it has egg in it!” |
10 | Lumpy and yellow, “butter in the middle and milk round it.” |
12 | “It looks like butter!” |
We were surprised to discover that we had just churned butter from double cream. We learned that cream is made of a mixture of heavy fat and lighter protein particles. When the mixture shaken, the heavy fat particles all stick together until the mixture has completely separated into a lump of butter and watery buttermilk.
World Book Day
Today we celebrated our favourite books by dressing up as characters from the stories. We had a lovely day, reading stories, collecting new books to take home, adding to a whole school story that was read to us in assembly and parading around the playground in our costumes. Well done to everyone who joined in.
Weather forecasters
The children of Cherry class got to be weather forecasters this week! After we learned about the climate in Greece, we compared it to the climate of the UK and the children predicted what the weather would be like this week in Greece and the UK.
Adverbials
Today we reordered sentences about Mary Anning and found some great examples of fronted adverbials.
